Kindergarten Registration Process
The Rockton School District #140 is conducting its annual preschool screening and Kindergarten registration on March 18-21, 2024. The screening and registration will be held at Rockton Grade School.
What is preschool screening? It is a free process offered to families that provides developmental and speech/language assessments for 3, 4 and 5-year-old children living in the district.
Who should attend screening? All children who will be 3, 4 or 5 years old by September 1, 2024, and live in the Rockton School District boundaries. Families with children, who will be 5 years old by September 1, 2024, will be screened and receive information regarding the kindergarten registration process at this time.
Why should my child go to preschool screening when my child is developing just fine? Screening not only provides a window of opportunity to strengthen areas of development where needed, but also highlights your child's strengths from which families and teachers can build upon.
My child went through screening before. Does he/she need to go again? A child's development is never static, especially in early childhood. Assessment of a child's developmental progress and comparison to past development provides more valuable information to both families and future teachers. Additional preschool programs are also available through the Rockton School District. We encourage every eligible child to participate!
What if screening indicates areas of difficulty? The Rockton School District will provide help and follow-up services as needed. Results are reviewed and families are contacted by June 2024, when follow-up is warranted.
What if my child will not be 3 years old before September 1, 2024? Please call Rockton Grade School for contact information if you would like your child, age birth to 29 months old, screened by Child Development Professionals.
